I just got off the phone with a 45-year-old collector in Pennsylvania who was about to buy his first computer since he had a Radio Shack trs80pic.jpgTRS-80 (left) in the 1980s.

He wanted some information on how to get onto Beckett.com and some other sites on the Internet. He said that when he first got on a computer 30 years ago, he didn’t think it would last. Hmmmm . . .

He’ll just be familiarizing himself with the site by March of 2008 when he and the rest of you will see some fun, fun changes on Beckett.com and with our magazines. We started planning months and months ago, and now the train is really rolling. Big changes.

Specifics? Can’t tell you right now, but it won’t be long. First to know will be those who frequent this blog.

And for those who frequent this blog, don’t be surprised if we from time to time offer some specials and some invitationals only on these pages.

What was your first computer?

I had one of those when I was kid. Two different operating systems in one computer that was controlled with a switch on the keyboard. 5 1/4″ floppy disks. Those were the days.

I can’t remember what first computer my dad got, but I can remember being excited when my dad brought home a new 1Gb External Harddrive for the great price of $300. LOL.

Looking forward to the new changes to the site and mag. However, detail free teasers like that suck.

I had a Vic-20 with cassette tape drive. It took forever to load anything.

We upgraded to a Commodore 64 with a disk drive. My favorite games were Pirates, Jordan vs. Bird, and Hardball.

I had a TRS80 color computer. It didn’t have 5 1/4 floppy. It had a cassette drive. You bought a casette, put it in an old casette player with one speaker. Typed “cload”, waited like 15 minutes. Then you could play a cheap version of pacman or donkey kong. Hard drive? Don’t know if I ever saved anything to it. They gave you a book with programs you could type in. After like an hour or two you typed in 10 load 20, and so on up to 700 or more. Then when you are finished, nothing happened, or you get a triangle or something.
