kobe-and-elon.jpgWell boys and girls, another era has come to a close at Beckett.

Friday, we bid farewell to the shy and introverted PR practioner Elon Werner, a frequent contributor to this blog and to all things Beckett. Werner, when kept separated from the irascible Ted Barker, is one of the more endearing characters ever to wear the “B With Leaves.”

Whether flapping wildly in a colorful parrot suit or engaging Kobe Bryant about Beckett cover photos, Elon’s contributions have been unique and many during the past two 888.jpgyears.

Like the time he tried to drink 30 16-ounce Diet Cokes during the course of a workday (he lost the bet at 17). Or the ever-endearing nervous hand tick during the numerous Card Geek photo shoots he orchestrated, resulting in the hobby’s best public service announcement campaign. Or when he organized the Beckett 500, a scooter race through the office.

Or the fact that during the last two weeks, like the true PR professional he is, Werner managed to wrangle about nine free lunches, some of them involving entire departments who didn’t even know he was leaving.

Next week, you can find Elon working with one of the most successful racing teams in motorsports history, John Force Racing, where he no doubt will be angling for freebies treated to numerous back-slapping welcome lunches during his first few weeks on the job.

We’ve had the last couple of weeks to pick up his lunch tab wish Elon good luck. You only have about 24 hours to dog pile the big guy. Let ‘er rip!  – PH

t206willisbatting75-small.jpgI was able to pry a couple more photos from Dave of the recent T206 find to be auctioned by Beckett Select Auctions. (Click on the photo for a closer look.)

I would guess that less than 100 people have laid eyes on these cards since they were boxed up decades ago. The rubber bands wrapped around the cards literally disintigrated from age when we first viewed the collection.

All 550 of the cards in the find are Sweet Caporal versions.
