cain1.jpgWith all this talk of Eddie Gaedel & Munchkins on the Beckett Blog, it reminded me of a very special autograph I own. Back in the late 1990s, my mother’s company did some work for an elderly lady here in Cleveland.

The lady was very happy with the work that was done and asked my mother if she knew anyone who like baseball. A few weeks later I received a package. Inside was this Christmas Card, along with an article from the Cleveland Plain Dealer about the game.

The package was from Bob Cain’s widow. [Cain was on the mound when Gaedel stepped in to hit in 1951.] It seems he signed a bunch of items for her to sell after he passed. This was one of those items.

[Editor's Note: There are less than 10 Gaedel autographs known to exist. He shunned publicity after the event and was killed in a 1961 mugging. This one sold for nearly $7,000 a few years back.]
