First look: 2009 Upper Deck Major League Soccer by Chris Olds

Upper Deck recently released images for its 2009 Major League Soccer set, which is set to arrive in shops in April.

The standard set will include 200 cards — including the first cards of the expansion Seattle Sounders — as well as game-used jersey cards and autographs for America’s version of “the other football.”

Each 36-pack box will include three game-used memorabilia cards and each case will include one MLS Marks autograph card limited to 30 copies or less. The game-used sets will include MLS Materials, as well as MLS Materials patch cards, and game-used cards of international soccer star David Beckham.

Inserts cards will be found in every 10-card pack. The insert sets will include Super Draft 2009, National Pride, Golden Boot, Hometown Heroes and MLS All-Stars. A gallery of a few sample cards is below.

Chris Olds has collected sports cards and memorabilia since 1987. Before coming to Beckett Media, he wrote about the hobby for the Orlando Sentinel on his blog, SportsStuff, and for the San Antonio Express-News and The Tuscaloosa (Ala.) News.
