Relic Wear lets collectors take their memorabilia everywhere by Chris Olds

Every collector knows that storage and display of their prized memorabilia pieces presents challenges.

But there’s a new product that solves that and allows the owner to take their memorabilia with them anywhere they go.

Well, as long as they’re wearing it.

Relic Wear is a new line of limited-edition bracelets, keyrings and pendants which include at least one piece of game-used sports memorabilia from some of the biggest names in baseball and hockey.

“At the moment [we’re] geared toward hockey and the Winter Olympics,” said Alex Malone, the founder of Relic Wear, via email. “[But] we will even be providing a service for collectors to send us their game used patches to be made into custom pendants for them.”

For example, the Lakeway, Texas-based company is offering men’s stainless steel bracelets with several swatches of memorabilia embedded into them. For example, a New York Yankees bracelet includes Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra, while a Montreal Canadiens piece includes Maurice ‘Rocket’ Richard, Jean Beliveau, Jacques Plante and Doug Harvey. There are presently two baseball options and several for the NHL.

The keyrings will include swatches from the jerseys of three NHL legends on each ring, with the Chicago Blackhawks, Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs all on the lineup.

Available later this month will be pendants for a dozen active and more recently retired NHL players, including Washington Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin, Penguins star, Evgeni Malkin, Red Wings legend Steve Yzerman and others.

The keyrings typically sell for $30 or less, while the bracelets cost a bit more (around $200) depending on which athletes appear on them.

Well you certainly don’t see that everyday…

Quite possibly one of the lamest ideas I have ever seen.

Can’t say I’m a fan of this idea.

Just when you think the memorabilia industry can’t come up with anything else new, they do.
