(UPDATED) First Look: 2010-11 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey by Tracy Hackler

Our initial First Look: posting for 2010-11 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey earlier today included retail-only insertion ratios for the product’s popular UD Game Jersey insert cards. In hobby, UD Game Jersey cards will fall two per hobby box. Our apologies for the confusion.

Beckett Media got an early glimpse this week at 2010-11 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey, the 20th anniversary edition of the company’s history-making base brand that will arrive in November delivering six Young Guns Rookie Cards, six 20th Anniversary base-set variations and two UD Game Jersey cards in every 24-pack box hobby box.

Only 1 jersey card now? Boy UD is making cutbacks in all the wrong places.

Classic UD design parallels? Like they did with OPC? AWESOME!!!

Buying a case for sure. The smaller amounts of jersey cards being dropped from 2 per box to 1 per box isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The market is oversaturated with simple jersey cards; so if they use the opportunity to put signature cards at 2 per case instead of 1 per case, then the value of jersey cards go slightly upwards due to a small increase in scarcity and autos are more accessible.

I almost believe that UD should be regretting spending that much money on dinosaur bones for that shenanigany Champs by now.

I agree with you Pierre. Jerseys are overrated.

The Retro cards are cool, but the rest seems kinda crappy.

I went yesterday to purchase a case but something told me to check it out first and I’m so glad I did. I opened a box and I did get 2 jersey cards and one was a star player and also a autographed card.
I like collecting the hard to get sets like sub-sets and the 20th anniversary cards looked great. Then reality struck…they put these cards on thin card board…what are they thinking! I was ready to purchase 1-2 cases to put this set together. I thought it was on the same quality stock the original was on and this is nothing less than crap. I have collected cards since the early 70’s and this is why UD is fading out of the hobby…they don’t listen to us, the collectors. Forget the jersey cards unless it’s the older stars of yesteryear. Make cards like the first 3-4 years in the business and have a high gloss subset without the foil, just a action full shot. I said last year I’m done buying UD and now that may happen.
