Card Gallery: 2010 TRISTAR Obak baseball cards by Chris Olds

The latest edition of TRISTAR‘s retro baseball card line, Obak, has arrived and it’s full of eclectic inclusions that explore the history of baseball and the sports world instead. (See the Box Busters video right here.)

While you might not recognize some of these names at a glance you undoubtedly are familiar with their creations or the ways that their achievements are reflected in sports.

Literally every card can be a story in Obak, but we figured that a picture’s worth a thousand words — and we also figured that firing up the Google to learn a bit more about the history of the game might not be a bad thing on a hot Sunday afternoon.

We’ll tell you a bit more about some of the cards you’ll see after the jump … after the jump.

Who are some of the people seen above?

— Todd McFarlane, historic home run baseball collector

— Bernice Gera, the first female umpire

— Jefferson Burdick, creator of the American Card Catalog — the first attempt at documenting and cataloging baseball cards

— George Eastman, creator of roll film for photography

— Eberhard Anheuser and Frederick Miller, um … beer icons?

— Al Munro Elias, creator of the Elias Sports Bureau — official statistician for most major sports

— John Pemberton, creator of Coca-Cola

— Henry John Heinz, ketchup inventor

— Harry M. Stevens, introduced hot dogs to baseball

— Jim Bouton & Robert C. Nelson, creators of Big League Chew

— Charles Tiffany, jewelry company founder and maker of World Series trophy

— Crash Davis … heard of him? You have if you have seen Bull Durham.

— Roy Hofheinz — Former Houston mayor who helped create Astrodome

— Alex Liddi & Lou Polli — the first Italian-born players (pitcher and position player) to play pro baseball and also play in MLB (Polli)

If it weren’t for Jefferson Burdick, this website wouldn’t exist.
