So, they’re not sharing a cup of coffee, and they’re certainly not sharing a ticket; but today (and for the next five days, actually) Obama and McCain are eBay’s odd couple. Featured as a pair for the first time, Obama, McCain and their respective signatures are bound by a cardboard spine in this 1/1 Topps Tribute Rivalries Revisited Cuts gem from 2010.
The political pull comes from a historically heavy set, filled with other rivalries like John F. Kennedy and Fidel Castro, and Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis. Since the ’08 Topps Co-Signers card, which also featured Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani, McCain and Obama’s cut signatures haven’t appeared together. Considering opposing party lines, this 1/1, doubly signed political pairing is even more unique.
Despite which side wins at the polls today, the winner of this Beckett Select auction will come out on top.
