ITG Celebrates Miraculous ’80s with Decades by tolentinotown

“Do you believe in miracles? Yes!”

Quoting broadcaster Al Michaels in a recent press release, In The Game officials highlighted a Team USA Gold Medal victory as one of the many hockey miracles that occurred in the 1980s. Pointing to an era of growth and rising stars in the sport, ITG revealed the historical significance of its upcoming Decades – 1980s product.

“Back in 2009, In The Game surveyed collectors to determine which year they would like to see covered as part of a special trading card release. The winner was 1972, but 1980 was a very close second,” said In The Game’s President Dr. Brian Price.

Scheduled to release in March, Decades will offer appearances from USA Gold Medal team members like Jim Craig and Mike Erzione, and other luminaries who debuted in the era. Prominent players like Steve Yzerman, Paul Coffey, Patrick Roy, and Mario Lemieux first graced the ice as pros in the ’80s, thus adding a powerful allure to the set. Appearing throughout the 150-card base set, on inserts, and in game-used memorabilia cards, these greats add a strong foundation for the forthcoming release.

Beyond memorabilia and mugshots, big-name and cult-collected hockey heroes also impact the set with hard-signed autographs. Alongside Hall of Fame players like Mark Messier and Mike Gartner are signatures from underrepresented favorites like Barry Pedersen and Bob Sauve. Several players in this era-specific set will debut with their first-ever autographed trading cards.

By Chris Olds | Editor

In The Game‘s foray into the baseball card market is inching closer toward a reality as 2011 Heroes & Prospects Baseball “Hits” Series 1 is set to arrive on Feb. 24 with a little something as its name suggests.

Hits.

Nothing more than hits.

Each box will contain five autograph or memorabilia cards — there are no base cards in the product — for a suggested retail price of $95. Every 12-box case will include a 1/1 card, while each master case is made up of four 12-box cases.

Although the product was announced at last year‘s National Sports Collectors Convention in Baltimore, ITG has opted for a spring training-timed release.

The product is mostly prospect-driven but does include memorabilia and autograph cards of Hall of Famers, retired stars and current MLB players. Some of the notable signers include Johnny Bench, Tommy Lasorda, Yogi Berra, Tom Seaver, Cal Ripken Jr., Nolan Ryan, Reggie Jackson, Don Mattingly and Harmon Killebrew among others.

Notable prospects who signed for the set include Brandon Belt, Yonder Alonso, Wil Myers, Dellin Betances, Jameson Taillon, Kyle Drabek and Mike Trout to name a few.

ITG Meets Collector Demands with New Between The Pipes Signees by tolentinotown

By Andrew Tolentino | Assistant Editor

Still a few months from hitting shelves, In The Game’s 2010-11 Between The Pipes is shaping out to be a product for the people.

“I have been informally polling collectors online as to what they would like to see in the 2010-11 edition of Between The Pipes,” said In The Game’s President, Dr. Brian Price. “They have come up with some amazing ideas that we are looking to bring to life and they have also suggested many players that we are diligently trying to sign.”

Proving that diligence pays off, In The Game recently announced that the upcoming release will bolster a list of favorites with lesser known players like Coyotes netminder, Tom Fenton. Price explained, “As soon as Fenton sat on the bench for Phoenix, collectors were asking us if we were going include him in Between The Pipes.”

The upcoming product will also include the likes of Manon Rheaume, Charline Labonte and Kim St-Pierre, some of Canada’s fiercest female goalies. Appearing in Between The Pipes with base, autograph and game-used memorabilia cards, these women certainly broaden the scope of the hockey hobby.

“Our mission with many of our products this season has been to include players that rarely appear on cards these days,” said Price. By making a special effort to seek out those cult players and reexamine the overlooked, In The Game hopes to connect collectors to a wide array of sung and unsung heroes.
