Topps plans wrapper redemption program for Chrome (updated) by Chris Olds

Update: On Oct. 22, Topps announced that it will be adding autographs of Buster Posey and  Jason Heyward to the program. There will be 100 signed versions of each card with Refractors numbered to 90 and Green Refractors numbered to 10 also to be found in the packs.

Topps Chrome hasn’t yet arrived but there’s already an extra reason to pick up a hobby box — a wrapper redemption focusing on the best rookies of 2010 and the best players in baseball history.

The company announced on Thursday morning a program that will put an exclusive pack of three Chrome Rookies & Legends variation cards into the hands of any collector who sends in 24 2010 Topps Chrome hobby wrappers.

The cards are part of a 15-card set promotion that will run through Feb. 28. Every 1oth pack of the cards will include Refractors.

See the complete checklist and get the address after the jump.

Did you read the Topps Million Card Giveaway rules? by Chris Olds

By most accounts, ToppsMillion Card Giveaway has been a resoundingly popular promotion this year with countless baseball fans and collectors from the past and present redeeming their codes for their MCG account, trading (electronically) their cardboard like the days of old.

However, I noticed something in the official rules that I wonder if many a collector noticed. (I hadn’t even after redeeming more than 30 codes.) Once a promotion’s deadline hits in March 2011, undelivered cards in your account vanish.

As in your mom threw them out electronically.

Here’s what the rules say:

Geeking Out on the Topps Gridiron Giveaway by Tracy Hackler

It’s about time.

I finally had the opportunity this afternoon to spend some quality time with the ballyhooed football card phenomenon known as the Topps Gridiron Giveaway. I’m a better man – and collector – for having done so.

The promotion, a direct descendant of the wildly popular Million Card Giveaway that debuted in 2010 Topps Baseball earlier this year, made its pigskin premiere last week inside packs of 2010 Topps Football.

Equal parts nostalgia and new media, the program is backed by a failsafe concept – not to mention an easy-to-use website – that seems universally embraceable: Free Topps football cards.

For those who don’t know how the program works, here’s a little background: Gridiron Giveaway code cards are seeded one in six packs of 2010 Topps Football. Each of those cards includes a unique alphanumeric number on the back and is guaranteed to be a winner.

Card Gallery: 2010 Topps WWE Wrestling by Chris Olds

We got our first look at the 2010 Topps WWE set on Wednesday and one of the things that stands out in this release are strong photographs cleanly showcased on the design for Topps’ 2010 baseball set.

From the WWE Divas to the brutes, the set of both past and present stars seems to carry a crisper and more energetic look than recent wrestling releases — even last year’s much- improved set — largely because of the photos, which are a mix of action and studio work.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that there are some pretty deep insert card sets to be found — and some autographs from guys who haven’t signed in years.

Get a closer look at the set with a 30-plus card gallery after the jump.
