Press Pass’ Five Star isn’t just about high-end racing cards by Chris Olds

By Chris Olds | Editor

Press Pass‘ foray into the ultra high-end trading card realm has some gems of racing memorabilia, but that’s not all the company is packing into its $500 and up boxes.

Some packs of Press Pass Five Star will include instant win memorabilia cards redeemable for items that even the most casual of NASCAR fans will recognize as kind of a big deal. (Apologies to Ron Burgundy.)

For example, how about a Dale Earnhardt race-used and signed helmet? It dates from the mid-1990s as it features a sticker on the back noting The Intimidator’s 1993 Winston Cup title.

With the NASCAR Hall of Fame set to open next Tuesday, Press Pass continues to ready cards for its 100-card release celebrating the history of the sport.

The sport’s milestones won’t only be noted in the new museum in Charlotte, N.C., but they’ll also be seen also in packs of racing cards throughout the year. The insert card set, which is broken down into four groups of cards — History of NASCAR, Milestone Moments, Glory Road and Class of 2010 — will include the members of the inaugural class as well.

NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. and NASCAR CEO Bill France Jr. will appear on cards along with seven-time champions Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt Sr. as well as legendary driver and owner Junior Johnson. They all will be inducted on May 23.

Press Pass, NASCAR bring No. 3 back to the track — and packs by Chris Olds

The famed No. 3 will return to the NASCAR track — and to Press Pass wrappers, too — later this summer as Dale Earnhardt Jr. will drive a No. 3 Wrangler Chevy in a Nationwide race at Daytona.

In turn, Press Pass will note this “Salute to Dale” with both Earnhardts on the packaging in the famed yellow and blue for its forthcoming Press Pass Stealth product that will arrive in June not long before the July 2 event.

“We are excited to bring collectors a sneak peak at the new Dale Jr. Wrangler Chevy paint scheme which will no doubt be wildly popular,” said Tom Farrell, VP of Brand Management for Press Pass.  “Collectors will also find Dale Jr. pictured in the classic blue and yellow uniform on his Nationwide base card in Stealth.”

See more after the jump.
