First autographed Pamela Anderson baseball card a hot seller by Chris Olds

By Chris Olds | Editor

The first Pamela Anderson autographed card from 2010 Donruss Elite Extra Edition has proven to be one hot card.

How hot?

The first copy to sell on eBay ended on Sunday at $302 after 13 bids.

“I think it’s quite impressive. It speaks to her own popularity and the uniqueness of the card,” said Panini America Marketing Manager Tracy Hackler. “She appeals to collectors and non-collectors alike. Obviously, the argument against celebrities in sports products doesn’t extend to Pam Anderson.”

Panini releases Donruss Elite Extra Edition checklist — no Bryce Harper there, either by Chris Olds

Panini America released its 2010 Donruss Elite Extra Edition checklist on Monday but, like Topps’ 2010 Bowman Draft, the elusive prospect that many a baseball collector is hunting —Bryce Harper — was nowhere to be found.

But what was included in its 200-card checklist is a deep crop of baseball prospects, many of whom signed autographs for what could be the company’s final Collegiate Licensing Company product for some time. Its deal with the CLC for non-football products has expired making way for Upper Deck‘s CLC exclusive to begin this fall.

The set will include more than 100 signers — a good number of them signing on-card — as well as a Pamela Anderson Pepperdine autograph, limited to just 35 copies.

The on-card autograph checklist consists of 33 players, while the rest signed stickers for inclusion in the product.

First look: Pamela Anderson’s baseball card by Chris Olds

A week ago, we brought to you the news that actress and former Playboy model Pamela Anderson will appear on a baseball card in the upcoming Donruss Elite Extra Edition baseball set from Panini America.

Well, now here’s the first look at the card itself.

It’s No. 100 in the base set and she will be signing 35 copies of the card for inclusion in packs.

Will there be other Fans of the Game since Anderson is noted as being one?

I’d bet so, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Panini America officials revealed to Beckett Media on Friday a few of the surprises it has in store for the upcoming 2010 Donruss Elite Extra Edition baseball card set that arrives in late-September.

Perhaps the biggest surprise? A Pamela Anderson autographed baseball card.

You see, the 43-year-old former Playboy model and Baywatch star is a big fan of the Pepperdine University baseball team, so much so she’ll appear on card No. 100 in the set wearing a Pepperdine Wave jersey.

Oh, and she’ll be signing 35 cards — on-card, not stickers — for inclusion in packs.

Among the retired players and Hall of Famers signing for the set in their high school or college uniforms are Cal Ripken Jr., Randy Johnson, Reggie Jackson, Paul Molitor, Alan Trammell, Tom Seaver and Bob Gibson among others.

Among the 33 prospects who have signed on-card for DEEE are:

Panini America enters baseball card market with 2009 Elite Extra Edition by Chris Olds

Panini America revealed on Tuesday the basic product information and preview images for its debut in the baseball card market with 2009 Elite Extra Edition, which will arrive in January.

The set marks the first baseball card set produced in the Arlington, Texas-based facility since the release of the unlicensed Threads, Prime Cuts (the 2008 Beckett Baseball Product of the Year) and Elite Extra Edition sets last year under the Donruss ownership, which sold the company to Panini in March.

The set, which appears to be licensed by the Collegiate Licensing Company, will include more than 40 first-round and supplemental first-round draft picks, and each hobby box will include four autographs as well as eight insert cards.

Among those scheduled to appear in the set are No. 2 pick Dustin Ackley, No. 3 draft pick Donavan Tate. The base set will include 150 players — 50 base cards and 100 autographed rookies. Every player in the set will have an autographed card.
