Panini lands Kevin Durant autographs for Absolute by Susan Lulgjuraj

By Susan Lulgjuraj | Contributing Editor

It’s been a year since anyone has pulled a Kevin Durant autograph card from a new product.

Fans of the Oklahoma City forward will only have to wait just a bit longer. Durant’s autographed cards will appear in Panini’s high-end 2010-11 Absolute Memorabilia Basketball, which is scheduled to release March 6.

Even though Panini already has five products out for the 2010-11 basketball season, none of them has had a Durant auto.

2010-11 Donruss Basketball … Lots of pretty pictures by Susan Lulgjuraj

By Susan Lulgjuraj | Contributing Editor

I was feeling a bit nostalgic today after looking at the 2010-11 Donruss Basketball card gallery.

These cards just feel oldschool. They feel like something I would have collected when I was just an itty, bitty kid – and that isn’t a bad thing.

Panini America released a massive preview on the product that releases on Jan. 5. There are a number of elements from with jersey cards, autographs, die-cards and flashy Holokote parallels.

Each box yields 24 packs with 10 (!) cards per pack. There are three autograph or memorabilia cards, and more than 20 die-cut cards per box.

The DUOS short-prints are available one in every other box.

What do you think of this product so far?

Incoming! New Arrivals for 2009-10 National Treasures Basketball by Tracy Hackler

Panini America‘s first foray into ultra-high-end basketball card production becomes official one week from today with the release of 2009-10 Playoff National Treasures, a $400-for-eight-cards proposition that guarantees its fair share of thrills among its eight cards per pack.

When the stakes are as high as they are with a hand-packed, super-premium product like this one, card manufacturers will wait until the last possible second to complete pack out in order to squeeze every last card into production.

That, of course, means lots of jaw-dropping jewels featuring lots of superstar players have been creating lots of excitement inside Panini America headquarters in recent days. Jaw-dropping jewels such as . . .

First look: 2010 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection basketball cards by Chris Olds

Upper Deck may be done producing NBA-licensed basketball cards, but it’s not done trying to put high-end basketball cards into the hands of collectors.

On Wednesday, the company revealed the basic product information and a package of preview images for its upcoming 2010 Ultimate Collection basketball card set, a Collegiate Licensing Company-approved product that packs an autographed card in every four-card pack.

The standard set consists of 60 base cards and 20 Rookie Signature Redemptions, but the real highlight in the product just might be the 1997 Legends autographs — which brings the look of the landmark football set to the hardwood.

Also to be found among the autograph lineup when Ultimate Collection arrives in May are Personal Touch Inscriptions (where players write answers to questions about their lives alongside their autographs) as well as All- Time Team Signatures and  All-Time Draft Signatures among others.

The Legends autographs will be signed directly on the cards and the checklist is set to include Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Julius Erving, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Bill  Walton, Jerry West and Yao Ming among others.
