The NFL has decided to cancel the NFL Experience and Card Show for Super Bowl XLIV in South Florida, according to an official with the league.

The league plans for the events to return in some fashion in 2011 when the Super Bowl is played in the Dallas Cowboys’ new stadium.

Last year’s NFL Experience in Tampa was the 18th year that the event had been held. The event included several interactive activities, corporate booths, autograph guests and entertainment acts for the weekend surrounding the big game.

AT THE SUPER BOWL: Donruss NFL Card Show notebook by Chris Olds

By Chris Olds

A glimpse inside my notebook (and a few images from my camera) from the NFL Experience and Donruss NFL Card Show at Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, Fla. …

Hot cards
redemptionsDonruss and Upper Deck produced exclusive card sets for the Donruss NFL Card Show with both companies doing wrapper redemptions and an exclusive full set from the Texas-based company and show sponsor.

“Our Super Bowl set was a huge success,” said Donruss spokesman Scott Prusha, who was one of about a dozen employees manning the company’s booth. “We introduced a ton of new collectors to cards as we set record sales of the 440-card Super Bowl set, with many purchasing multiples. … Fans of all teams were buying up Donruss product at the show for the wrapper redemption. We heard from one dealer that he even had to fly more Donruss product in just for the show to handle all the requests.”

Name dropping
We all know that the Super Bowl means plenty of celebrities and star athletes would be around Tampa. …

BTW, why did Bill Belichick wear a red hoodie last night? You don’t change it up. You don’t tempt fate.

don-yates.jpgNFL Experience Phase II began today in Glendale, Ariz., after a two-day haitis.

Beckett sent reinforcment troops to man the Beckett table until the marathon show ends Sunday.

So when VP of Sales Mike Obert texted me saying he was eating lunch with Wolf from American Gladiators, it’s like, yeah right.

Couple minutes later, this photo pops into my inbox. That’s Obert (right) and sales guys Brett Robertson (left) flanking what seems to be an affable Don Yates, 38, former professional bull fighter and now known to millions as Wolf.

Current Gladiators don’t stack up to the Original Six, but Nitro, Apollo and friends probobly couldn’t write poetry, dance hip-hop, do stand-up comedy or do movie stunts like the 6-4, 240-pound Californian.

And, he does photos with “friends.” Get a load of the hardware on his fingers.
