Exclusive: New Upper Deck Prominent Cuts Images Revealed by Tracy Hackler

Upper Deck officials on Thursday afternoon released several exclusive images from the company’s new Prominent Cuts product, due out next month.

The images — ranging in scope from former presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton to Ultimate Fighting Championship superstars Anderson Silva and Randy Couture to actor Jeremy Piven to India-born pitching prospect Rinku Singh — offer additional insight into the eclectic makeup of Prominent Cuts’ base set.

Gallery: Topps American Heritage Heroes Edition autographs & Relics by Chris Olds


The latest installment of ToppsAmerican Hertiage non-sports line, Heroes Edition, has arrived and it’s packing unusual Relics and autographs as expected.

There are Relics (pieces of items) from historic figures and events, cut autographs of names you might recognize, autographs from people you might not recognize (along with others you will) and an extensive lineup of Relic cards featuring pieces of NASA memorabilia. Sure, the hardened sports collector might not see the value here beyond dollar signs, but don’t underestimate the buying power of non-sports fans. (Sure, not every card will be a home run — to use a familiar term — but some will be.)

But there are some interesting sports inclusions as well…

The most interesting cards aren’t always the most expensive ones, but some of the American Heritage Heroes Edition cards are certainly rich in their stories.

Preview Gallery: 2009 Upper Deck Prominent Cuts by Chris Olds


Upper Deck has released additional images and product information for its upcoming Prominent Cuts set that includes cut autograph cards from athletes in several sports as well as celebrity memorabilia cards.

Now scheduled for release in November, Prominent Cuts will include one Prominent Cut Signature per five-pack box as well as two Cage Fighter (MMA) Signatures and two Hollywood History memorabilia cards.

The standard set will consist of 60 cards — 22 politicians (including President Barack Obama), 12 celebrities and 26 Sports Icons — a list that includes Kobe Bryant, Randy Couture, Michael Jordan, Laird Hamilton and Kristi Yamaguchi among others.
