We’ve looked at Blake Griffin’s cards before on the blog. We asked which of his rookie cards would you like to own.

But if you could own any of his cards – rookie card logo rules withheld – would this card be it?

Griffin’s 2009-2010 National Treasures Logoman auto 1/1 is on eBay with a staggering buy it now price. Anyone who is interested in the card would only need to fork over $32,032.32

The seller is not accepting any low-ball offers either. He states directly in his auction that anything submitted under $15,000 will automatically declined. Twenty offers have already been submitted, but he hasn’t taken any yet.

In the last year, we’ve seen some cards go far tremendous prices – mostly in the baseball world such as Stephen Strasburg’s 2010 Bowman Chrome Superfractor.

But if this card were to go to auction, what do you think would be the final price?

Photo Gallery: Inside the NFL Experience by tolentinotown

By Andrew Tolentino | Assistant Editor

Braving the second evening of a three-day North Texas ice apocalypse, I put on my warmest clothes and ventured to the Dallas Convention Center for the Super Bowl XLV NFL Experience.

Despite the freezing temperatures, I  arrived without incident and with childlike glee when I saw the epic Super Bowl XLV letters standing in the iced-over convention center lawn. As visitors – some locals, some tourists, some brandishing terrible towels, some sporting cheese heads – poured inside the building, I couldn’t help but momentarily absorb the spectacle from afar.

However, I have seen the movie “Alive,” and I know what prolonged exposure can do to a man.

After making my way inside the traveling NFL theme park and eating a protein bar (just to make sure),  I confirmed the glorious magnitude foreshadowed by that dramatic entrance. I was greeted with the hustle and bustle of show-goers, a light show and an enormous Drew Brees cut-out hanging from the ceiling. At the epicenter of the experience, the Topps and Panini-sponsored Memorabilia Show lured me in immediately. Bringing their best host-city wares and cream-of-the-crop football collectibles, dealers set up shop, hoping to make hobbyists out of every attendee. Offering reasonably-priced merchandise and promotions to a crowd of awestruck football fanatics, most of these merchants didn’t have to do much convincing.  Continue reading

Panini America unveils wrapper redemption program for NHL All-Star weekend by Susan Lulgjuraj

By Susan Lulgjuraj | Contributing Editor

Raleigh, N.C., will be the place to be this weekend for hockey fans and hockey card collectors.

Upper Deck released its plans of the 2011 NHL All-Star Fan Fair and now Panini America’s plans are out for all to see.

One of the biggest ways card company’s give away items at these types of events is through wrapper redemption programs. It gets the customer to buy product in order to receive exclusive cards.

Panini’s redemption program highlights 1990-91 Score Hockey.

For every three packs of 2010-11 Panini NHL hobby packs a customer opens at the Panini booth, they will receive a two-card pack.

The set commemorating Score Hockey will have seven cards limited to 500 copies, but there are opportunities to get some great hits in each pack. Along with special inserts, collectors have the chance to find Rookie NHL patch autographs and other autos from players such as Sidney Crosby, Taylor Hall and Steve Yzerman.

Panini lands Kevin Durant autographs for Absolute by Susan Lulgjuraj

By Susan Lulgjuraj | Contributing Editor

It’s been a year since anyone has pulled a Kevin Durant autograph card from a new product.

Fans of the Oklahoma City forward will only have to wait just a bit longer. Durant’s autographed cards will appear in Panini’s high-end 2010-11 Absolute Memorabilia Basketball, which is scheduled to release March 6.

Even though Panini already has five products out for the 2010-11 basketball season, none of them has had a Durant auto.

See highlights from Absolute Memorabilia Basketball after the jump.

2010-11 Donruss Basketball … Lots of pretty pictures by Susan Lulgjuraj

By Susan Lulgjuraj | Contributing Editor

I was feeling a bit nostalgic today after looking at the 2010-11 Donruss Basketball card gallery.

These cards just feel oldschool. They feel like something I would have collected when I was just an itty, bitty kid – and that isn’t a bad thing.

Panini America released a massive preview on the product that releases on Jan. 5. There are a number of elements from with jersey cards, autographs, die-cards and flashy Holokote parallels.

Each box yields 24 packs with 10 (!) cards per pack. There are three autograph or memorabilia cards, and more than 20 die-cut cards per box.

The DUOS short-prints are available one in every other box.

What do you think of this product so far?

Panini offers collectors behind-the-scenes looks at production by Susan Lulgjuraj

By Susan Lulgjuraj | Contributing Editor

Panini America has been offering great insight into the card production business through a series YouTube videos that show the manufacturing process and more.

Most collectors just see the end product when they pick up a pack or a box of cards. They never get to see what goes into making the cards and what the process actually looks like — until now.

Panini has given the masses some exclusive looks, which includes collations and packing out cards. Even how some of the big hits are collated into boxes.

Video No. 1 (above): 2010 Donruss Gridiron Gear production with cuts, collation, packing and boxing.

Preview Gallery: 2010 Panini Gridiron Gear RG Gems autographs by Chris Olds

By Chris Olds | Editor

Panini America released a handful of preview images to tease what’s coming in 2010 Gridiron Gear, which arrives this week with some hidden surprises.

What kinds of surprises?

Well, for starters there are the Rookie Gridiron Gems cards that have an autograph on a jersey swatch that is concealed inside the card. Collectors can pull out its inner panel to see the entire signature.

You’ll see more of the cards after the jump, and you see the rest of the cards from the set online starting with a batch right here and you’ll have the chance to win one of these cards from a top running back in the class in the next issue of Beckett Football. (That’ll be in hobby shops and chain stores around the country by next month … )

Until then, you can see five cards — before and after autograph reveals — after the jump.

First look: 2010 National Treasures Football by Susan Lulgjuraj

By Susan Lulgjuraj | Contributing Editor

Those sneaky card guys over at Panini America couldn’t hang on to photos of 2010 National Treasures Football any longer. They couldn’t keep the lid on the final and most expensive product in their 2010 football line.

National Treasures is consistently one of the most anticipated sets since it debuted in 2006. The high-end product features sharp photos, beautiful patches and a good mix of legend, veteran and rookie autographs.

The product isn’t due out until March 2, 2011, but Panini just couldn’t hide its preview photos any longer.

A $400-pack gets you eight cards. The preview photos show players such as Tom Brady, Johnny Unitas and Sam Bradford, all guys at the top of the game or quickly on the rise.

See the gallery — and more — after the jump.

Baseball certainly not missing in Arlington by Chris Olds

By Chris Olds | Editor

Panini America may not be an official licensee of Major League Baseball when it comes to trading cards, but a small selection of behind-the-scenes autographs the company released on Wednesday certainly shows that the national pastime is certainly on some minds deep in the heart of Texas.

Given the names shown and the types of autographed items signed, some of the signatures are undoubtedly for its upcoming 2010 Century Collection set, one that will combine postage stamps with an autograph placed into a baseball card in a cut fashion. The baseball season may finally be over at the ol’ ballpark in Arlington, but there’s still plenty going on right down the road at Panini HQ.

While that sheet of Johnny Bench sticker autographs is an absolute work of art, you can see what we mean about the other autographs in a small selection of photos after the jump.

Dez’s Dirty Laundry by tolentinotown

By Andrew Tolentino | Assistant Editor

Sometimes it’s perfectly acceptable to air your dirty laundry in public. Especially when the stinky stuff was worn by an NFL athlete.

With the sharp stench of the gridiron still lingering, Dez Bryant’s first Cowboys jersey arrived at the Panini America offices on Monday. Hopefully, hobby brand manager Tracy Hackler wore gloves and clothespinned his nose as he provided the inside scoop on Dez’s dirty laundry.

The yet-to-be-febreezed football jersey arrived with game used battle scares, galore. From an authenticity standpoint though, it’s a pungently pristine piece of memorabilia, ripe for the picking. Hackler notes, “You can enjoy it now in its entirety…and in a few months on some highly collectible Panini America football card.” Continue reading
