scorefb89Panini America released the first images and additional product preview information for its 2009 Score football set which includes an advanced design for a low price and celebrates the 20th anniversary of the set that helped usher in a new feel for football cards.

Scheduled for a July release, the base set consists of 400 cards — 300 players and 100 Rookie Cards — as well as a full slate of parallels as with recent years. New this year is a 10-card 1989 Score insert set that features this year’s rookies on that memorable green-bordered design.

Those cards also will be found with autographed Inscriptions versions, which are limited to 20 or fewer copies apiece.

Among the parallels are Scorecard (glossy, silver foil), Glossy (even the sales sheets come with a glossy variation), Gold Zone (/299), Red Zone (/100), End Zone (/6) and Artist’s Proofs (/32).

The insert lineup includes Inscriptions autographs, Hot Rookies (30 cards, with parallels), Franchise (20 cards, with parallels), Future Franchise (20 cards, with parallels), Young Stars (20 cards, with parallels) and the 1989 set.

Chris Olds has collected sports cards and memorabilia since 1987. Before coming to Beckett Media, he wrote about the hobby for the Orlando Sentinel on his blog, SportsStuff, and for the San Antonio Express-News and The Tuscaloosa (Ala.) News.
