This just in from Topps…

Topps has confirmed that the following five memorabilia cards in the recently released 2009 Tribute Baseball include pieces of stadium seat:

Babe Ruth Dual Relic — Bat/Old Yankee Stadium Seat

Babe Ruth Triple Relic — Old Yankee Stadium Seat/Uniform/Old Yankee Stadium Seat

Ty Cobb Dual Relic — Bat/Tiger Stadium Seat

Jackie Robinson Triple Relic — Ebbets Field Seat/Bat/Ebbets Field Seat

Mickey Mantle Triple Relic — Old Yankee Stadium Seat/Uniform/Old Yankee Stadium Seat

Topps will replace any of the above cards with a pack of 2009 Topps Tribute Baseball or comparable product for collectors that are not satisfied with their card(s).

In addition, every card in 2009 Topps Sterling Baseball features game-used bat and game-used uniform except for one subject — Carl Erskine, which features Erskine’s autograph with stadium seat.  Topps will replace this card with a pack of 2009 Topps Sterling Baseball for collectors not satisfied with their card.

Moving forward, to ensure no confusion, stadium seat pieces will not be used as memorabilia pieces unless it’s part of a special stadium seat-specific insert.

Please send all items intended for replacement to the address listed below.  Please allow 2-4 weeks for delivery.

What about the Duke Snider cards? When I called Topps and spoke with them about the wood piece their customer service employee told me my single Duke Snider cards were seats instead of bat cards. Since my was only a single, is Topps not addressing that or it is another dodge on Topps’ part?

Thank you for at least findind out and posting this information.

Why doesn’t Topps just release cards honoring the great Stadiums?

I would rather see a Tigers Stadium, a Yankee Stadium, and an Ebbits Field – Relic Card honoring them. As opposed to using these relics as a misleading ploy for the biggest names that played in these stadiums.

When they say “stadium seat”, we have no idea if its a dugout bench, chair from the locker room, or even the left field bleachers. This chunk of wood could have been installed 50+ years after Babe Ruth or Ty Cobb, and really has nothing to do with those greats.

It’s sad when I drive by the corner of Michigan and Trumbull and see the remnants of Tigers Stadium heaped in piles behind the chain-linked fence. Topps should be honoring the memory of these Stadiums. They are just as important to the game as the names that once played there.

If Topps were to put together a sub-set like this, it would be something worth chasing in my mind.

Thanks for listening to my rant. Feel free to pass the suggestion along to Topps, because I wouldn’t know where to send it.

Doesn’t seem like a very good deal for collectors with these cards. Send in a Babe Ruth card to get a pack with a Sal Bando autograph in it? No thanks.

So basically, Topps is admitting they screwed up, but not doing anything substantial about it. I see how seriously they take their commitment to customer service.

Cute, misrepresent your product, then shaft people that want to do something about it. Well done.

Most of these seat cards were not worth much anyway. If its a Ruth. yes. Mantle OK. but other then that its a 20 dollar card at best. Its all good. Its nice to see that companies actually admit fault. Topps and UD do so much good. They and only human. I feel the less I know the better of I am . But it is interesting. Thanks for the post …

opps , I forgot about Cobb and Robinson.
I would have liked to see those to play together.
Now that would be a great card.
Like a “What If Card”
I can see it now.

lol, what I thought was one of my greatest pulls turns out to be one of the biggest rip offs. And they want to replace it with the same garbage? How about giving me an actual game used certified piece of ruthes bat.
